Congratulations to Anne Scott, TEL’s trainer of the month! Anne is a Reference/Instruction Librarian at Columbia State Community College in Columbia Tennessee. Anne is always on the move. In addition to working at Columbia State’s main campus, she works at the Lewisburg, Clifton, Lawrenceburg and Franklin campuses. Her work with TEL has taken her many places, too. She has conducted trainings at a summer in-service for Maury County and Marshall County teachers, a technology fair in Lewisburg, staff training at South Central Tennessee Workforce Development Center in Maury County, staff training at the Corrections Corporation of America Correctional Facility in Clifton, and this week she will be training Media Specialists and their Assistants for Lawrence County Schools K-12.

Anne’s library instruction classes always include teaching students to use some of the TEL databases. She says, “My first TEL students were pre-scholarship workshop participants returning to school or work.” She tailored her training to fit the students’ needs, explaining, “I focused most on Learning Express Library as a testing resource and General Business File ASAP for company profiles and employment information.”
Anne continues, “It’s most rewarding to train people who will take what they’ve learned to their students or train people who want to learn a new skill for the workplace.  Visiting the CCA Correctional Facility in Clifton has been most interesting. Teaching one of the instructors about the free downloadable e-books through Learning Express Library was wonderful. The instructors can save the books to a flash drive and transfer the books to the computers in the computer lab. This feature was especially important since inmates do not have online access and e-books can be accessed by several people at a time, and the books are not misplaced.”

In the future, Anne would like to see TEL trainings held at South Central Tennessee Workforce Development centers, adult learning centers, senior centers, community clubs, book clubs, and summer school programs. When she isn’t teaching people how to use library resources, Anne’s hobbies include theater and music. She lives with her husband Faber, and their two daughters, Jane Adele and Tressie, on a farm in Lawrenceburg Tennessee.

Thank you, Anne, for your work with TEL!
